I laughed, I cried, I loved Cat Daddies. We don’t often think of men being cat owners because of society’s stereotypes. We think men are supposed to own dogs and women are supposed to own cats, but there is such a thing as a cat daddy. I’m one. I’ve had a cat that I rescued for 11 years. Mye Hoang has made a wonderful film about men who are cat owners and how cats emotionally affect their lives. All of the stories told in this documentary are inspirational and most will leave you in tears, but in a good way. There’s so much that I can spoil and I don’t want to because I feel like everybody should see this movie and experience the stories within the film. You meet an actor who has three cats and makes funny videos. You’ll meet a homeless man who’s only emotional refuge is a cat that he found on the street. You’ll meet a firehouse that instead of having a Dalmatian, has a cat for their firehouse pet.
What makes this movie so good is that you encounter men from all different walks of life who are cat owners, men who you wouldn’t expect to be cat owners, but how cats have profoundly changed their lives. This film doesn’t take away from dog owners, but shines alive on the unique relationships that men can have with cats that are just as beautiful as the relationship that women can have with their cats. It also shows a different side of cats that you may not have seen before. This film also dives into what makes cats such a great pet. And not necessarily any better than dogs, but a different kind of relationship that’s just as inspirational and emotional. I know that there are so many wonderful stories of Cat Daddies, but the stories within this film will leave you wanting more.
It truly is a wonderful film that can make you want to be a cat owner. If you’re a cat daddy like me, you’ll find a connection to a lot of the stories within this film and the cats themselves. If nothing else you’ll learn that Cat Daddies are just as important as Cat Mommies. I very much compliment the director for choosing such different cat owners and sharing their stories but finding a way of how they are all similar and connect to one another. It’s one of the best documentaries in 2022 and you will not be disappointed when watching this film especially as you go on a journey with each of the subjects in this film, not only them, but their cats. There’s plenty more that I can say about this film, but it would all be spoilers and I won’t do that. Go watch the film! It’s worth the price of a movie ticket.
