“Good Luck, Don’t Die, Have Fun is one of the must see films of 2026!”
Sam Rockwell is comedy gold in Good Luck, Don’t Die, Have Fun!!!
Truly one of the best movies of the year so far, Good Luck, Don’t Die, Have Fun is one of the must- see movies of 2026. A dark and satirical comedy about the uses of AI and social media, starring Sam Rockwell…It does not disappoint. That’s mostly because of Sam Rockwell who always entertains and has the best dialogue whether it’s scripted or improvised. I’ll tell you right off the bat. I’m not going to give this movie a perfect 10, but it’s still a film you should see especially if you’re a fan of dark comedy. Sam Rockwell stars as a man from the future who arrives at a certain point in the modern time with a mission to stop an artificial intelligence known as “God” that will end up destroying the earth. Of course, everybody thinks he’s crazy, but his mission is to select the right group of people to help them destroy this artificial intelligence. Arriving at a Los Angeles diner looking like he’s homeless and crazy, this is where the adventure takes off. He puts together an eclectic group of heroes, some of the very specific purpose that you will discover throughout the film.
I’ll start by saying that if you are a fan of Sam Rockwell this is one of his best movies. Imagine if Guy from Galaxy Quest had to go back to the past to save the future…maybe that’s the best description I can give of his character. This film also has a twist at the beginning of the movie… it’s his 117th time trying to put together a group that’s going to help him save the world, but this time he just may have found the perfect group. The other standout performances come from Juno Temple and Haley Lu Richardson as well as Michael Pena. I will avoid spoilers so you can discover their own side stories and purpose for the overall mission, but make no mistake, Sam Rockwell is the real star of this movie and it’s his performance that is the driving force. The story is actually pretty genius, what if artificial intelligence without any safety checks and the use of social media led to the destruction of humanity and therefore the world…how would you correct it especially if you could go back in time. While it’s not a new concept, it’s brilliant in the fact that the main character is someone who’s gone back multiple times and tried different scenarios with the right group of people, and for the first time the main character gets farther than he ever has before. The film very much has a good social commentary on artificial intelligence and of course social media, things that we know today do play humanity and how we connect one another. Instead of a dramatic documentary exploring the dangers of these things, this story gives us a very dark comedy where you can’t help but laugh at what these characters will do to stop the destruction of humanity. I admit, I’d rather take the comedic version then a story that’s just going to make me angry and sad. The dialogue and the one-liners are brilliant and will keep you laughing, but the film isn’t perfect And this is part of my critique.
There are side stories that are important to the overall story especially Juno Temple and Haley Lu Richardson’s characters, But in this 2-hour film, there are some lulls where the pacing slows down and it does get kind of boring until it picks back up with Sam Rockwell’s performance. While I agree that it’s necessary for the overall story, the best part of the movie is Sam’s character leading these heroes to the main destination and how they’re going to stop everything. There’s very much highs and lows in this film and the highs are obviously with Sam Rockwell’s performance. There’s about 15 to 20 minutes out of the story that probably could have been cut out, but as I said it is important to the overall story and the social commentary of artificial intelligence and social media…. how these things are rewiring our brains and making us lose our humanity. Sometimes these kinds of stories are necessary, but on the bright side, this is not a two and a half hour or 3-hour film trying to over explain everything.
Everything works very well to get to a satisfying ending. If I’m being honest, I’m probably nitpicking more than anything else. However, this is still a fun movie that I believe will turn out to be one of the best movies of the year. Sam Rockwell is gold with his performance, he does not disappoint, and while it may be too early to judge who should be nominated for a major award, I can safely say that Sam Rockwell should be nominated for something with his incredible performance. The movie offers the perfect commentary on artificial intelligence and social media without wading too deep into philosophical discussions and giving us an entertaining story that’s not only funny, but heartwarming. I would highly recommend seeing this movie in theaters, but if you don’t get a chance, it is certainly worth renting on a digital platform. Also, Haley Lou Richardson is quickly becoming one of my favorite actresses especially having watched the first season of Ponies on peacock and seeing her in very underrated films like Operation Finale. And who doesn’t love Juno Temple…if you’re not familiar with her work, just go watch Ted Lasso. My final verdict, I certainly had a lot of fun watching Good Luck, Don’t Die, Have Fun and you will too!
